Welcome
"The mission of the Peer Mentoring Program, Una Mano Amiga" (A Helping Hand) is to help Hispanic students achieve their academic goals as well as help new students at Salt Lake Community College in their first steps. We provide students with educational, social and emotional support. We believe that students should mentor other students. With this idea, the student with most experience has the opportunity to guide the new students. We are a community that inspires, gives support and share our experiences as well as information from the different resources that the college offers." |

Empowering students for success
FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
Event:
Empowering Students celebration (Second
Anniversary)
The program “Una Mano Amiga” (a helping hand) will be having their
second anniversary. To celebrate there will be food, great prizes, people
within
the program giving their testimonies, and great fun! It will be held
at the
South city campus of Salt lake community college in room 1-032 from
3:00 to 7:30
pm On December 9th. Everybody is welcome to come!
The program helps new
students with
their registration, finding classes and advising them to the right
path of
their chosen major. It also
started out as a social program as well,
to help Hispanic students feel
comfortable as minorities in an educational
setting.
Luz Gumarra founded the
program to help Hispanic students come together at the college and help them get
a head start in their education. As the program has taken off more students
have
been taking advantage of this program as resources to a better
education,
whether they are Hispanic or not.
